What is the diffrence between an autoblog and a splog and are autoblogs unethical?

Ahhhh ethics my favorite subject.. The age old question of are Autoblogs ethical. Well let me put it straight. It is considered by some to be of blackhat nature autoblogs or maybe even greyhat to others. In all honesty they are neither. Autoblogs are a very ethical way of delivering high quality content to your readers. Remember before when I said that essentially Google news and yahoo news and other types of sites where basically big autoblogs? They are delivering HIGH QUALITY content to there readers. So if you must consider that an unethical practice then you must also look at the fact that some of the biggest sites on the web are unethical.

Now as I said AUTOBLOGS are ethical yet however splogs are not. What is a splog? A splog is a site made for spam nothing else to manipulate the search engines. An autoblog on the other hand strives on delivering quality content to the reader. I am going to try to go in depth here.

Splog. STEALS content from other websites. A splog is built for the only purpose of manipulating the search engines. These splogs do not last long as webmasters do report websites that steal there content. Which triggers a manual review and then a banning from the serps is sure to be next. This is another reason why the dupe content penalty myth exist right here. In no way shape or form is a splog ethical. Which this is the reason why most whitehat marketers have such a bad opinion on autoblogs.

Now an autoblog on the other hand strives to give quality content to the reader and in exchange make a few coins maybe from some ads or whatever. They may pursue things like link building to help better position there blog but the blog is not built for the sole purpose on manipulating the search engines to rank there other sites. They are usually made for income from the site itself. An autoblog gives credit where credit is due – A linkback to the original article which in turn makes the original author happy and everyone shares in the profit. You see a real autoblog owner understands that traffic trickles down and he wants to keep filtering it either through his ads or to the original author of the article. He also tries to take some time to put a little effort into his autoblog so usually can pass a manual inspection from google.

Well there you go in a nutshell. Any questions ask away on the forum.

Autoblogs, Google, and You. The truth about the Google Autoblog penalty.

I have said it before and I will say it again. There is no such thing as the duplicate content penalty. This right now is the biggest myth in SEO today. But exactly how did it start?

Years ago Google announced that they where going to do a duplicate content penalty. They did and still do this duplicate content penalty. This pertains to the same content on the same domain more then once. Google will choose which version of the content they wish to show in there search engines result. This is a very serious threat because by default wordpress blogs do have dupe content on them. This is just the way they are formatted nothing big at all a SEO plugin will take care of that for you.

Now some opportunist marketers *you know who you scum bags are!* when Google first announced this penalty decided they would capitalize on it and just leave out the part of dupe content on the same domain to include dupe content period. This is not true and anyone with a brain can see this is not the case. Allow me to show you a real time example.

Associated Press is one of the biggest news syndicate sources in the world. They are redistributed without any edits through out many popular news sites. To name a few Google News Yahoo News and MSNBC . Now my first thing you want to notice is they all do very well in the serps. The content is all duplicated yet there dupe content does really well.

Now my first question is do you really think that Google is going to ban there own domain for dupe content?

My second question is are you that naive to think they will?

No they will not probably even if the dupe content penalty as advertised is real it would not ban itself but that is besides the point.

Many many many legit sites have complete sites of nothing but duplicated and republished content but they all do well in the serps. Case being if you do your research you will find out that this is nothing but a myth.

But Chris I am SURE there is a dupe content penalty because my autoblog was banned from the serps.

Bullshit it was not banned it is in the sandboxed you are just one those people who thinks more is better. You made the same mistake that many autoblog owners do and you published an unrealistic amount of content to your blog each and everyday. Now what is going to happen is google is not going to be able to crawl your site effectively so takes you out of the serps for a short period of time so that it can better crawl your site. How long this last all depends on just how much content you actually posted. It might take Google a long time to catch up. It may have even triggered a manual review of your site which is another bad idea when doing an autoblog. A manual review most autoblogs will not pass and there you go you earned yourself a ban. Has nothing to do with dupe content it has to deal with your own inexperience.

So here is my advice if you want an autoblog try to keep your autoblog under the radar. One post a day is plenty! There is no need as you will be rocking into dangerous zones the more you publish a day. So keep it safe and keep the amount of post per day low.

Hope this helps to clear up some of the confusion.
